Foreword

This is Royal Haskoning’s first sustainability report. The publication of this report is a significant step in the embedment of corporate social responsibility and transparency in our operations. In so doing, we are joining a large group of leading companies that are demonstrating that they are at the centre of society, they are aware of environmental problems, they are mindful of employees’ interests and they take account of the business environment they operate in.
Sustainable free enterprise and recognizing corporate social responsibility will become progressively more important to companies and in due course will even be among the factors that justify their existence. Obviously this applies to Royal Haskoning too. Perhaps we should say particularly to Royal Haskoning, because our consultants are working day in and day out on sustainable solutions for people and the environment. Through our projects we could not really get any closer to society.

Corporate social responsibility has therefore always been a matter of course for Royal Haskoning. CSR also generates added value for our business and the society we are a part of. We apply it in a carefully considered and strategic way and we are giving it shape and content in four dimensions: we embed it in our core values and policy, we adapt products and services to it, we focus our operations on the triple bottom line and we support a range of social initiatives.

We do not consider corporate social responsibility to be a trend, but a foundation for our organization and future growth. For Royal Haskoning it’s a way of life – a self-evident duty and a condition for doing business successfully. Our stakeholders are also making it progressively clearer that they greatly appreciate CSR and we are providing all possible scope for its further development and embedment in our organization.
