On Sunday 6 April Royal Haskoning signed the contract for the Iconic Bridge to Palm Jebel Ali in Dubai. After Royal Haskoning won the design competition for the prestigious bridge, Nakheel also commissioned the organisation for the engineering and the tendering procedure for this bridge.
The Iconic Bridge will link the Dubai Waterfront to the Palm Jebel Ali, the largest Palm built to date, which stretches eight kilometres out to sea. The cable bridge will be 450 metres long and have a free span of 225 metres. The bridge deck will be 50 metres wide and will hang freely between 135 metre high pylons. Thirty-eight cables will keep the deck in place. The bridge will be stunning by day and will provide a spectacular view by night.
