The Delta Competition The previous Delta Competition in 2006, organized by Royal Haskoning, the longest-established consultancy firm in the Netherlands, sparked new debates and dialogue between academics and private industry. The aim is to build on this success in countries across the world. The Delta Competition focuses on climate change impact areas that require adaptive solutions, and includes such aspects as water, nature, mobility, agriculture, energy, health, housing and recreation. The competition is open to PhDs, Master and Bachelor students throughout the world. Individuals, single-discipline teams and multi-disciplinary groups of students are invited to submit papers. Students can register their interest participating until 1 April via our dedicated website - www.deltacompetition.com. All submissions must be received by 1 August 2008.
Submissions should be original, have a scientific basis and be realistic. The papers submitted will be selected from a variety of disciplines, including climate change modelling, spatial planning, engineering, regeneration, infrastructure and buildings, social science and economics. Submissions will be peer- reviewed by a panel of judges, all of whom are internationally-acclaimed scientists. The members of the panel are Prof. Dr Julian Hunt, Prof. Louis de Quelerij, Prof. Pier Vellinga, Dr Zef Hemel, Dr Chris West and Prof. Hans Opschoor. The best papers will be published. The international judges will decide the awards for the best individual paper (€ 5,000) and the best team paper (€ 10,000), which will be presented at the Royal Haskoning awards ceremony and Climate Change Conference in November 2008.
