The advice of the Veerman Committee published today about how to keep the Netherlands safe in the long term is that intensive collaboration between government and the private sector is called for. Royal Haskoning, as a long-standing partner, will continue to actively participate by making practical suggestions for the implementation of the Delta programme.
Royal Haskoning is pleased that the Veerman Committee has made specific proposals for how to assure the safety and livability of the country for the foreseeable future. Besides the technical solutions, the administrative streamlining that is being advocated is extremely important when it comes to turning the plans into action with the required urgency.
In a number of elements of the recommendations, Royal Haskoning recognizes contributions to the social debate that were made in the recent past by Royal Haskoning on its own and with others. Examples include broadening the coast, the renewed risk approach, high added value use of islands - such as an airport - and the plea for reserving room for the major rivers.
Royal Haskoning advocates that options for intensive cooperation with the environment and the market should be sought during the detailed elaboration of the Delta programme proposed by the committee.
Royal Haskoning will monitor future developments closely and where possible it will come forward once again with constructive proposals for how to guarantee the safety of the Netherlands.
