'Green Collar' skills gap to hit British business, warns Royal Haskoning

The rising demand for ‘green collar’ working in Britain will place pressure on the domestic skills market and leave businesses without the engineering and environmental expertise they require, according to new research from engineering and environment consultancy, Royal Haskoning. The survey of over 500 business leaders in Britain revealed that growing pressure to be ‘green’ from Government and consumers has led to a huge increase in the need for ‘green collar’ skills and services, with over a third (37%) of respondents concerned about their company’s future ability to satisfy its ‘green collar’ needs.(i)

New floods in Louisiana a possibility

Hurricane Gustav is expected to make landfall near New Orleans during the day. The current meteorological forecasts indicate that Gustav will come ashore as a Category 3 hurricane with wind speeds of up to 125 mph. Royal Haskoning employees were evacuated from New Orleans yesterday. If the forecasts are correct, floods along the Louisiana coast cannot be ruled out.

New Orleans fears hurricane Gustav

Hurricane Gustav is expected near New Orleans and it may develop into a category 2 or 3 storm. Royal Haskoning employees are also in the area that may be evacuated. The city fears new floods, depending on the route of the storm. It is only possible to say roughly how the hurricane will move one day in advance.
