In recent years people have felt less and less safe as a consequence of man-made and natural disasters, crime and terrorism. Incidents caused by human failure have resulted in greater awareness of hidden risks and the opportunities for prevention. There is greater focus on regulations and above all on enforcing them.
Problems relating to an effective response to disasters, road safety and a healthy living environment will have to be considered from the points of view of all those involved. People and the environment should have top priority in innovative concepts for defences against natural disasters too.
