Hans de Wit - New Director for TEC
Hans de Wit (46), an engineer from Royal Haskoning, has been appointed as the new Director of TEC as of 1 July 2009. He takes over from Wim Janssen, another Royal Haskoning engineer, who has served as the Group’s director for the past 13 years.

Herman Klein Entink (57) has been appointed as Royal Haskoning’s Corporate Initiatives Director with effect from 1 July 2009. By introducing this new position, the Board of Management wants to bring operational management to a higher level.

TEC secures order for 35 km bridge tunnel combination in China
TEC (Tunnel Engineering Consultants) together with an international consortium, will advise the Chinese government during the design and construction of a 35 km long bridge/tunnel combination in the south of China, which will form the connection between the important Chinese economic centres of Hong Kong, Macao and the Chinese mainland. The project, in the delta of the “Pearl river”, comprises a series of conventional bridges and cable bridges, a number of islands to be newly created and a 6 km immersed tunnel. The design is already in full swing and construction is to begin at the end of this year. The intention is for the connection to be put into service at the end of 2015. One of the main challenges for this project is the scope.

Royal Haskoning and FiberCore Europe build bridges
On 29 June Royal Haskoning and FiberCore Europe signed a unique joint venture for the worldwide launch of the composite Delft Design Bridge, which they have developed together. This ultra-modern bridge is constructed of 100% fibre-reinforced composite. It is light weight, sustainable, safe and easy to maintain. It is also a highly attractive technical proposition in terms of cost.

Royal Haskoning on orientation mission to Sochi and Moscow
The Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs together with the Royal Dutch Embassy in Moscow organizes an orientation mission to Moscow and Sochi 22-25 of June 2009. Focus of the mission will be the Olympic Winter Games 2014 which will take place in Sochi. Part of the programme of the mission will be a Round Table at June 22 in Moscow with Olympstroy, the state organisation responsible for the construction of the Olympic complexes and infrastructure.

Nijmegen, 23 June 2009 – Graduate engineer Marc van Eekeren has been formally appointed guest Professor of Water Supply Engineering at Tongji University in Shanghai. Tongji is one of the leading technical universities in China. The appointment of Van Eekeren has had a positive effect on business development within the Dutch water technology sector in China.

Royal Haskoning meets Medvedev
Nijmegen, 19 June 2009 – President Medvedev of the Russian Federation is visiting the Netherlands. During this visit he will discuss various projects including the huge Yamal project in the Russian Federation. President Medvedev will also meet with a delegation of leading Dutch businesses, amongst which is Royal Haskoning’s Chairman, Jan Bout.

Royal Haskoning investigates dyke relocation
As the leading partner in a consortium, Royal Haskoning will assist the municipality of Nijmegen to draw up a regional planning programme for the Space for the Waal project. As part of the project Royal Haskoning will design planning variations for the area that is to be reorganised as a result of the dyke relocation. An environmental impact assessment will be prepared based on the results of various surveys. Royal Haskoning was chosen following a public invitation to tender. By spring 2010 the investigations and the various alternatives must be completed.

Royal Haskoning surge atlas helps during New Orleans hurricane threat
Nijmegen/New Orleans, 31 May 2009 – A surge atlas designed and introduced by Royal Haskoning can be used to make an immediate estimate of the maximum water levels and wave heights around New Orleans. With the hurricane season just around the corner (1 June – 30 November), Royal Haskoning is hoping it can make a significant contribution by providing better predictions in order to prevent a disaster like the one in 2005. Royal Haskoning expert Mathijs van Ledden has moreover become a member of the crisis team that acts if a hurricane threatens.
