Annually during the past 10 years Royal Haskoning has supported Shell Gabon in controlling HSE and business risks through the conduct of ISO 14001 internal audits and vigorously validating remediation of oily sludge and oil contaminated soil works.
 
Shell Gabon embarked in the mid nineties on the remediation of various with oil contaminated sites and spots in the production area following 35 years of continuous operation in the concession. Remediation works were carried out by international and local contractors. Royal Haskoning validated the work of the contractor against pre set international standard and reported to Shell Gabon.
 
Late nineties Shell Gabon established an ISO 14001 Environmental management system. During the process of building the system up to certification in 2001 and biannually during the years thereafter Royal Haskoning conducted internal EMS audits jointly with Shell Gabon staff. The audit objectives were to assess compliance with the ISO 14001 standard, the Shell Gabon EMS manual and the continual improvement process. The audit reports are presented to the Shell Gabon leadership team. Over the years Royal Haskoning trained Shell Gabon internal auditors in regulatory compliance and ISO 14001 auditing.
