The Arnhem-Nijmegen region has one of the busiest traffic sections in the Netherlands, and as a result, it is putting tremendous pressure on the existing network of bridges and roads. The increase in traffic is the main cause of the current congestion.

Royal Haskoning was commissioned by the Province of Gelderland to evaluate the best strategy in order to improve current and future traffic flows.

As part of the study, a traffic forecast was executed by modeling the impact of a possible extension of highway A73, linking it with highway A15.

The project evaluated the environmental impact, such as the local air quality, noise level, impact on plant and wildlife, water and soil, as well as the social and economic aspects, such as the effect on local residents and their livelihood.

Royal Haskoning submitted their design and analysis to the local and regional government of Gelderland, and based upon their conclusions, they were able to make a final decision on the preferred strategy.
