Sandwich wall beneath Amsterdam Centraal Station
An excavation, within which a tunnel is sunk as a part of the Centraal Station underground station (platform section) of the Noord/Zuidlijn (‘North/South Line’), is to be created beneath the Amsterdam Centraal (‘Amsterdam Central’) station. The section beneath Amsterdam Centraal Station is characterised by the application of a particular technology in the form of, inter alia, the so-called ‘sandwich wall’.

The CS underground station of the North/South Line is on Station Island. This station will be an integral part of the biggest public transport hub in the Netherlands and will provide transfer facilities between local, regional and international public transport systems.

Full scale test on environmental impact of diaphragm wall trench
This year the construction of the deep underground stations for the new Amsterdam metro line will start. As a part of the stations’ design a full scale test on the installation of diaphragm wall trenches has been carried out to investigate the impact on the environment. This paper discusses test program, test results, the interpretation of the test results and the 3D FE modelling that was used for prediction and validation purposes.

Design of Deep Underground stations in soft soil conditions
The municipality of Amsterdam wish to reduce the level of car traffic within the City Centre. As a consequence the public transport is to be extended by a new North/South Metro line. This paper will focus on the design philosophy of the deep station boxes.
