Royal Haskoning actively contributes to the International Year of Sanitation and the Millennium Development Goals by providing its outstanding knowledge and experience on sanitation in developing countries.
International Year of Sanitation The world continues to be off track to meet the Millennium Development Goals’ target to reduce by half the proportion of people without access to basic sanitation by 2015. If the current trends continue, there will be 2.4 billion people without basic sanitation in 2015. In most developing countries a proper functioning sanitation infrastructure is lacking, especially in informal urban dwellings and rural areas. However, the demand for sanitation facilities is significant because of health risks. Vision Royal Haskoning We believe the Millennium Development Goal can only be met when governments, donors, NGOs and commercial organisations join there strengths and start implementation as soon as possible. In cooperation with Rabobank we have developed a new concept to implement sanitation facilities by meso-finance.Read more in the brochure “sanitation by meso-finance” Related issues Besides the work on sanitation in developing countries, Royal Haskoning has also much experience and expertise in the field of more advanced waste water treatment. These technologies are mainly implemented for the European Market to meet the water quality norms according to the European Frame Work Directive. But Royal Haskoning has also used these technologies for anaerobic waste water treatment plants worldwide.
