Royal Haskoning was responsible for the new build of the Dedemsvaart sewage treatment plant replacing the existing treatment works.

The following were built:
• an aeration tank 50 metres in diameter and 5.5 metres deep,
• a settlement tank 50 metres in diameter ,
• a processing building with all the pump facilities,
• a solids cleaning plant,
• a compactor
• an effluent pumping station

The building works included a sludge buffer, lava filter unit; site and floating layer pump well and an industrial building with workshops, warehouses and office and service space. The industrial building, the processing building and the site layout were architect-designed.

What is unusual in this case is that Groot Salland Water Board asked Royal Haskoning to choose the system and carry out the preliminary design, final design, general specifications and contracting-out for the Dedemsvaart sewage treatment plant as well. Because of the restructuring of the water boards Dedemsvaart is now managed by Velt en Vecht Water Board. A completely new design was made after that.
