The project comprised the installation of 50 km of new water transport pipelines in Sekondi-Takoradi, Ghana.
The pipelines consisted of Dn 300, 400 and 600 steel and PVC pipes. Within the scope of the project, 500,000 m3 of silt, sand and organic clay was also dredged from a water storage reservoir/lake behind a 75 year old dam. Furthermore, rapid gravity filters were rehabilitated and/or replaced and the following was constructed:
• treated water storage reservoirs,
• pumps stations,
• a chemical dosing plant
• power supply facilities
Royal Haskoning also arranged for the construction of new booster pump stations and elevated water storage reservoirs in the distribution system. Other activities included a network modeling study and training of Ghana Water Company Limited staff in management of dredging projects, Operation & Maintenance of water transport and treatment facilities and in network modeling, including supply of software and hardware. The total project value was 26.6 million Euros.
