There are currently four operational military airports in the Netherlands in which one of them is used partly as a civilian airport. The Dutch Royal Air Force commissioned Royal Haskoning to prepare an environmental impact assessment report for these four airports as part of the government’s noise and safety zoning plan and to obtain permission for a possible urban development and re-zoning.
The four airports under investigation are Eindhoven (part civilian), Woensdrecht, Volkel and De Peel, and are closely monitored primarily for noise, external safety, ecology, water and air quality.
Royal Haskoning conducted a full EIA report, as well as an EIA training program and institutional strengthening for senior air force staff to keep logs and to comply with permits and regulations. In addition, Royal Haskoning has ongoing communication with third parties such as the local government, civilians and special interest groups and gives information and support during public hearings concerning the environment.
Royal Haskoning provided an environmental impact assessment report for the military to use as part of their plans to re-zone their military airports which may involve expansion or closing down of the airports due to the need for more land for urban development.
