Investigations on Municipal Solid Waste Landfills

This PHARE-project supported the Hungarian Ministry of Environment and Water to define the future policy on municipal landfills. Based on the results of this project, the 12 Regional Environmental Inspectorates are able to implement the proposed action plans to close, take aftercare measures and upgrade landfills.
The main results of this project comprise a nation wide inventory of all municipal landfills, a comprehensive and sophisticated Landfill Information System (LINSY), a master plan for the aftercare of landfills to be closed and a recommended future network of regional landfills.
