Digital Risk Indicator helps safety professionals
Province of Noord Brabant
Local Government
Noord Brabant the Netherlands
Environmental policy and risk management
Safety professionals from various authorities have to take disaster and accident risks into account in their daily activities. Royal Haskoning developed a digital Risk Indicator to help these professionals in the province of Noord-Brabant. It became a national tool.
Professional RISk Map
The Risk Information System (RIS) provides information on 13 types of disasters and shows them digitally and geographically on the RISk Map. These are accidents involving dangerous substances, floods, aircraft accidents, forest fires, nuclear accidents or panic in crowds. The system is fed by the (Register Risicosituaties Gevaarlijke Stoffen, (RRGS—Register of Dangerous Substances Risk Situations), and the Informatie Systeem Overige Ramptypen, (ISOR—Other Disaster Types Information System).
Fields of action, products, work processes, safety questions
Many public bodies in every province encounter safety risks on a daily basis: local authorities, environmental services, fire departments, GHOR (Dutch Medical Assistance for Accidents and Disasters), police, water boards, the Ministry of Waterways and Public Works and the province itself. These organizations cover a wide range of ‘products’: permits, exemptions, visions, plans, recommendations, checks, reports and memoranda. After studying the underlying work processes Royal Haskoning established that safety professionals are being confronted with questions in the field of safety in respect of 35 products. The answers to these questions are to be found in the professional RISk Map. Careful assessment of levels of importance is only possible by answering these questions.
Royal Haskoning’s digital Risk Indicator on the Internet leads professionals to the answers on questions of safety step by step. A current, easily accessible and simple to use application. Other provinces are so positive about the result that they will also use the Risk Indicator.
Instruction meetings
After supplying the Risk Indicator Royal Haskoning trained around 400 professionals in the use of the Risk Indicator and the RISk Map.
