The project elaborates the results of Jakarta Flood Management 1 and builds on the recently approved “Water Vision” in the Netherlands. The project objective is to improve flood management through the use of non-structural measures.
The non-structural measures put in place are:
  • General public information campaigns. These campaigns are organised in collaboration with responsible Government agencies, the mass media and specialized NGOs like the Indonesian Red Cross and “Action Contre la Faim”;
  • Creation of a Task Force to drive the process for inter-agency collaboration and to generate political and administrative support;
  • Raising awareness and facilitating community participation in selected pilot areas by organising activities related to: cleaning and maintenance of micro drains, improved solid waste collection and possible re-use and disposal of solid waste on a more sustainable basis;
  • Evaluation of the current online monitoring system and making recommendations for improvements through the identification of new rainfall and river stations locations to effectively cover the area and improved early warning procedures.
