Royal Haskoning achieves milestone in South-Africa
Dutch Engineering & Consultancy multinational Royal Haskoning achieved the milestone of 1000 000 safe construction man-hours for the Meerkat II project in Sasolburg, South Africa. With this impressive achievement, Royal Haskoning has made a strong entrance to the South African market.
In June 2008, South African Oil Multinational Sasol has asked Royal Haskoning to provide the Engineering, Procurement and Construction management (EPCm) for a fully automated state-ofthe- art chemical batch plant in Sasolburg, South Africa.

It would be the second time that Royal Haskoning has been asked to do so. In 2006, RHDE has started the Meerkat I project which entailed the EPCm of a similar plant in Europe. Sasol has awarded this project two awards, one of them being the Sasol Project of the Year 2008.

Aside from the chemical plant, the Meerkat II project entailed the provision of extensive supporting facilities such as an administration building, a remote control room, truck unloading facilities, a tank farm, two off gas incinerators, workshop facilities and a warehouse.

“We are very proud that not only our Royal Haskoning employees, but also the Sasol Technology team and all the contractors have reached this outstanding achievement. Further compliments are due to all the HSE-coordinators, supervisors and construction workers who created a safe work environment every day”, concludes Hans-Jochem de Kleijn, Project Engineer at Royal Haskoning.
